I am utterly without a single coherent word …

at the moment as I watch my home town go up in flames.  The buildings I pass every day, the shopkeepers I know who work hard to keep their businesses afloat, the buses I travel on alight … my family’s history, my history is steeped in this area which is being laid waste.  It feels surreal and I just cannot find any more words apart from you mother-fucking sons of bitches – I hope you do time, serious time, all of you.

About titflasher

Writer, blogger, animal activist, people activist, dream-catcher maker, mommy to 9 cats and a roving band of foxes ... Blog name comes from my father's suggestion for the title of my autobiography ... after my mother's and my awful habit of flashing whenever the security police took our photo in the dark old days of apartheid South Africa. I love nature, including creepy crawlies and people, find life fascinating and frustrating and have two terrible weaknesses - nictotine and animals in distress ... can't abide the latter situation and can't give up the former. I'm Pagan but not anti-Christian, funny but quite serious, light-hearted but can be annoying. I am warm-hearted until someone p*sses on me too much, then I get soggy and even. Feel free to link me but all the words on these pages is copyrighted, so copy it and take the credit and I will find you and slap you upside the head, hard. The blog is probably best read via category as there is loads on here already, and I just got started :-)

There is no easy answer. I know that not all will be caught, fewer will be prosecuted, and those that aren’t let off because of their “hard childhood” will never serve enough time. Not for the destruction they have caused. For the lives they have mangled.

You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

Your house was one of those destroyed? Were you able to evacuate your pets?

Please, stay safe, and if you need help, let us, your loyal readers, know. We will do anything we can.

From the other side of the pond,

Thank you so much for asking! The cats and I are fine. The worst of the violence, looting and fires was about a mile away and we had only a few instances of criminal activity in the immediate area. The police are doing an excellent job (1,057 people arrested as of this afternoon) and the courts are already sentencing people – very unusually for the UK, they are being sentenced to actual prison terms rather than probation. We had a couple of sleepless nights but otherwise came through unscathed. Sadly, five people have died, many people have lost their homes and businesses and homeless pets are having to be found shelter places. Where I live has an amazing amount of community spirit which is not always evident but at times like these, comes through. There is already a clean up crew of volunteers in place and everyone is doing what they can to help those affected. Thanks again for your lovely message and concern – it is greatly appreciated :-).
